1899 Visit to Exeter by Duke and Duchess of York: a rare Aller Vale Pottery yellow glazed beaker of small size painted in colours and incised with dated inscription and moulded crest, impressed mark, 91mm, small chip to foot * In early July 1899 the Duke and Duchess of York visited Devon and on the 4th of the month opened the 'York Wing' of the Technical College and University of Exeter. The city's motto 'Semper Fedelis' (Always Faithful) is inscribed on the mug. Accompanying the lot is a letter from Devon Library and a photocopy of the Exeter Evening Post of that day.
